Vol. 175: "The World is not my Home, I'm just Passing Through......" Tom Waits

Ladies and gentlemen, the wind keeps on blowing, the world keeps on spinning and I continue to observe, legs sometime poured in concrete in awe inspiring amazement of it all. Each green new leaf that wanders its way onto my path continues to enlighten and enliven me; I witness further signs that truth and consciousness are awakening in this quickening of a chaotic universe we inhabit. All of this and more at times batters my wearied mind, numb from the salutations and conflagrations of potent worry and doubt I struggle on; sidelined no longer, we all must struggle on and remain ever vigilant, ever aware of the dangers and immense sunrise possibilities that linger around every street corner or waving fields of golden wheat.

Ladies and gentlemen, with each new edition, with each passing breath in an ever growing pollution immersed world, the global commons of the Internet is where the Global Outrage flourishes and continues to fight against tyrannical rule. The summer is fading fast and with it the old guard, the old standards, the old ways of thinking. That this is all taking place has already been written in the book of intuition behind your closed eyelids. You feel the intensity of deja-vu, knowing that what is happening has happened before and is therefore, somehow inevitable.

Whatever you can think of is possible, because if it were not possible, it couldn't be thought of. Have I just blown your mind?

Ladies and gentlemen, congratulations, you are now one step closer to the realization of your true potential. Star children, tired parents, arise and become the bright beacons of light our distant ancestors dreamed us to be.

We once built pyramids, let us build something more than the next smart phone. We are all potential bursts of energy. We are not to be consumed by the products they sell us.

We are more than numbers on spreadsheets or instruments of investments. We are sunflowers.

Awaken and hear the nearly forgotten call of your inner-selves. Trust your gut instinct. It is the only thing that is keen to the awareness of the earth's movements and the cycles of development.

Ladies and gentlemen, become once again hip to the realm of possibilities that you once believed when you were children. However, before you believe that you can send checks, cash and whatever attempt you may have to buy yourselves out of this confounding, disturbing mess and into the Promised Land; this won't stop the Outrage from happening. This can't stop the water from flowing; but, it can help to further our existence and the continued struggle against all that is evil in this world; the tyranny of evil men.

In year of our lord 1912, in the United States of America, one of the world's largest corporations' was headquartered in Gary, Indiana. That corporation was U.S. Steel. What was once a booming industrial mecca of hope and middle-class idealism is now nothing more than an empty shell of a ghetto that bleeds poverty into the surrounding towns. The automobile industry in America was once headquartered in Detroit, Michigan.

Notice the comparison when industry packs it in and towns are left to fight amongst the rubble. Change is inevitable, no matter how much you want your country back.

Detroit is $18billion in debt and has filed for the largest municipal bankruptcy in the country's history. The United States of Surveillance is $16trillion!!! In debt and in denial; it's too bad Detroit can't just print their own currency, because that seems to be the catch all solution for the geniuses in Washington.

psy·cho·path  (sk-pth)
n.
A person with an antisocial personality disorder, manifested in aggressive, perverted, criminal, or amoral behavior without empathy or remorse.

Could you say that this sometimes, more than most, defines the actions and behavior of our beloved government that has become the United States of Surveillance?

"Too bad I don't look like George Clooney, the media would love me."
Ladies and gentlemen, the military tribunal trial of PFC Bradley Manning went on without much fanfare, flashbulbs or utterances from the mainstream corporate owned media octopus. The young geeky looking man made Julian Assange a household name amongst informed and concerned households. But then again, this comes as no surprise to this educated man.  Edward Snowden is just Bradley Manning 2.0, and Snowden has President Obama behaving like a popular high-school chick who's not going to attend the party if you know who is attending. "Scrap the Summit in Moscow, I've got to do my hair."
"I can't believe you made out with him?!"
I have to believe that somewhere, somehow, some of you are saying "who cares?" If it doesn't fall into my back yard or land in front of me in traffic, or doesn't concern my child's after-school activities schedule, what value is it to me? All he did was help to expose and uncover the many atrocities our beloved United States of Surveillance was committing in the name of nation building; all the while we've got a nation here at home that needs rebuilding, before we all get foreclosed on or crushed under the crumbling debris of our decaying infrastructure. Just continue watching the bouncing ball.

Instead, each one of you may be thinking that I will simply continue on as before. Distracted, like a sheep led up the hills and down to the valleys below; ride the roller coaster, follow the Dow Jones, the S&P; too bad most of us aren't seeing the returns on all of those all-time highs; pity how that happens.

60% of young Americans 18-29 support Edward Snowden's leaks. Only 36% of Americans 65 or older are in support. The tide is turning. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/DC-Decoder/Decoder-Wire/2013/0618/Edward-Snowden-a-hero-to-many-young-Americans-poll-suggests

Ladies and gentlemen, the birth of the royal baby HRH Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge was deemed more important than the trial of Bradley Manning, and he may well be. But, somewhere John Brown is turning in his grave. For all I can guess, he may be the future King of England or the Anti-Christ, it's all perspective, it's all depending on where you're coming from. Read the book, The Anti-Christ and a Cup of Tea to get a better idea of where my addled mind is coming from, if you have the time. http://www.amazon.com/The-Antichrist-Cup-Tea-Cohen/dp/0966279301 He was born on a full moon, 7/22= 11.  A new beginning; do your own research, look into it. Nothing is coincidence.

In an historic game changing event, a Netflix online only series, House of Cards, made television history with 9 deserved Emmy nominations. The first time ever an online only series was nominated. The rugs are being pulled. The automobile is just being introduced and the horse and carriage of old television patterns are being replaced, set aside, except for the boneshaker hipster dufus riders of Portlandia and neighborhoods near you. Go listen to Vampire Weekend as you pedal through traffic. As a sign of the times, character development is once again vitally important in content, not just the newest haircut of the moment. This is the new golden age of television. No wonder were obese, because I for one can't stop watching Breaking Bad.

But remember, that this is all just temporary; we are just only passing through. So lighten up people, lighten up.

Vol. 174: You Can Count on That: Part II

In another received news bulletin hot off the wire, the accused younger lone surviving brother of the alleged Boston Marathon bombings, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, has plead NOT-GUILTY. This leads to the question, how long until they find him hanging from the ceiling of his jail cell, a tennis shoelace around his neck or shot twice in the head from an apparent suicide (i.e., see Vince Foster)? All of which would stop him from revealing to the distracted public that he was possibly nothing more than a patsy........someone dig up Jack Ruby’s corpse, he's got work to do; you can count on that.

On a tangent not too far from the fringes, recently, I received an email alert via an anonymous source deep within the construction barricaded confines of his city's crumbling infrastructure (pick any major metropolitan area in the United States of Surveillance) in which he or she expressed his or her desire in wanting us here at the Global Outrage of an Educated Man to investigate the 2009 mass shooting in Fort Hood, Texas. Why, you might ask? Because the shooting that was performed by accused insane gunman and Major in the U.S Army, Psychiatrist Nidal Hasan, who according to his defense attorney, performed the mass shooting, killing 13 as a means of protecting the Taliban against the deployment of more U.S troops in Afghanistan?! Are you freaking poke me with a stick into both of my eyes and jam a long hot poker into both of my ears kidding me?! That's his defense, protecting the Taliban??

If you look deep enough, you'll find that nothing stands in the way of the United States of Surveillance and their love of the opium crop in Afghanistan.
And yet, the legalization of Marijuana is seen as a bad thing?

While Hasan's argument may have been a bit more sympathetic if he said the rampage was necessary to protect Muslim women and children, that defense strategy does not apply in a war situation, said Lisa M. Windsor, a retired Army colonel and former judge advocate. Still, it's unclear what Hasan may present because attorneys are not allowed to give evidence themselves, said Windsor, an attorney specializing in military law. By ANGELA K. BROWN 06/04/13 06:41 PM ET EDT AP

As I hope to be an intelligent man, or at least perceived to be, it all begs me to ask the questions, how much coverage has this story been given by the major media? Is it a war of Christianity vs. Islam? Or, is that what the powers that be would like us to believe after we've been manipulated by their octopus tentacle apparatus, so we would go willingly and hypnotically along with whatever they put in front of us?

Remember the Golden Rule, "he who has the gold, makes the rules." This is the same nefarious many tentacle squid; the same major media that is controlled by six corporations throughout the entire world. The story is getting about as much coverage as truth and decency has been these days programmed into the nightly broadcasts of the major television outlets. Zero, zip, nada; it is sickening, saddening and disheartening; you can count on that.

Unfortunately, were about to be given "all-Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman all the time," until they deem it appropriate to turn our attention to something more important. How many young black men are killed every day? Why was this one case so important? Is it used as a means to further divide and conquer us? Is it used as means to distract us from what's really relevant and important? Like the system that created Trayvon? Like the system that continues to sell us these stories that are nothing more than stopping along the side of the road to gawk at a car crash. All of this is a distraction; but there is still a child-like hope like the still remaining remnants of the belief in the tooth fairy, that maybe, just maybe they'll finally cover the $500 trillion Libor Scandal; you read that right, $500 TRILLION!!!!!! Check out Matt Taibbi's relevant and disconcerting article in the April 25th, 2013 edition of Rolling Stone. http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/everything-is-rigged-the-biggest-financial-scandal-yet-20130425

In another strange trip across the news wire, I am willing to lay my life on the line and state that none of you have ever heard of the 2045 Initiative. Ladies and gentlemen, this initiative's goal is to transfer peoples' consciousness into a robotic avatar, in the process achieving immortality of the soul. You heard me right; immortality of the soul.

On the weekend of June 15th-16th in New York City, some of the world's leading scientists and thinkers gathered to discuss the possibilities and potentialities. Its’ founder, Dmitry Itskov, a Russian millionaire ten times over, wants their goal to happen by 2045, thus the name of the initiative. With the help of his fortune, he has taken the ideas of science fiction writer Phillip K. Dick and singularity impresario Roy Kurzweil and placed them into the realm of scientific reality. He wants to help humanity achieve immortality through technology. He discusses the ability of "mind uploading,” whatever that means. He wants a world that is "less chaotic."

But do you really want a world where the same thing happens time after time after time? We already have that in baseball; it's called the Pohlads' not spending any money.

We already have self-driving cars brought to you by the inventive technological corporate geniuses at Google, which isn't a bad idea; although our bosses will only have us working directly to and from work from then on.

We're already turning into computers; our brains are huge hard drives; we might as well live forever right? The corporations would love it, a never ending supply of consumers. During the interview on Charlie Rose, ironically, the genius robotic designer and creator David Hansen spoke and gestured like a robot. You can't make this stuff up.

All of this happening whether you like it or not, and you can count on that.

Vol. 174: You Can Count on That: Part I

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. Thelonius Ronscpiacy is here, back once again to fight the global bloodsuckers where they live and breathe; more commonly these days on the Internet and in the nether regions of the digital ether. Back once again to confront the abominations of harlots at the gates to their pearly white McMansions.  My friend and cohort in exposing the hypocrisy and slime of the globally nefarious, Theona Donther, is on assignment in the Caribbean. She will be back when she is ready and able. She is still having some difficulty getting over the bruises and tear gas, but with the help of large amounts of Red Stripe, jerk chicken and fat spliffs, she will remain ever vigilant; you can count on that.

The story that continues to sweep the cobwebs from the globe is that of trail-blazing turncoat Edward Snowden; the once upon a time contract employee of security firm Booz Allen (sounds like a fraternity house), who leaked vital information pertaining to the NSA's global surveillance program that involved the wiretapping all incoming and outgoing phone calls within the United States and tracked web traffic as well; data mining.

First of all, I would like to state that this reporter is in support of stopping terrorist attacks and other violent acts within the legal framework of our Constitution and the inherent Rights of Man; however, I still believe in radical ideas like privacy; so, that doesn't mean that Big Brother should be able to look through every one's mail or track what he or she is watching every second of every hour of every day. Those are powers a Dictator would employ; a fascist Dictator!!!

Meanwhile, Mr. Snowden is in limbo (even Dante would be amused) in a Moscow airport trying to figure out which country will be willing to grant him political asylum. As a result of his apparently intended actions, the young man will spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder, because the United States of Surveillance never quits, you can count on that.

All the while Vladimir Putin is biting his lower lip in a Mr. Burns'esque caricature (we need more topless photos of Putin)

going over his motives and scenarios for possibly keeping him under wraps; because the longer he stays in Russia, the more power Putin has in the situation.

Which leads to the questions, does the organization that was formerly the KGB have him? Whom has he been speaking to? What exactly does he know, and how long until his dead, burnt fried chicken to the crisp bodily remains are found in a train derailment full of oil?

The consequences of his actions, in the same scenario as Bradley Manning, are that the international relations have been harmed within the public relations machinery that are the United States of Surveillance propaganda antennae and they are scrambling to put all of the pieces back together again; you can count on that.

All of this has possibly been masterminded by a James Bond type villainous character depending on which side you are on, Julian Assange, the leader of WikiLeaks. He's been bankrolling the movements of Snowden around the chessboard with the help of his fellow hackers throughout the world. It has become a cloak and dagger game of cat and mouse. The stakes are life or death for Mr. Snowden, or life in Guantanamo, depending on the route the secret organizations within the United States of Surveillance decide to take. We may never truly know.

Venezuela has offered sanctuary to Mr. Snowden, as well as Nicaragua; as it seems any Latin American country that has reason to hold a grudge against the United States, which means all of them, due to our country's failed policies of the War on Drugs and NAFTA; as well as their being exhausted by the rhetoric or hostilities or those who no longer want to continue to feel pushed around by the most popular junior high bully on the planet, i.e., the United States of Surveillance.

Protests in Bolivia have sprung up demanding that they remove the U.S. Embassy due to the allegation that Snowden was on a plane headed to Bolivia that the United States of Surveillance and their allies had grounded in Austria. Never mind the fact that the President of Bolivia, Evo Morales was on the plane. Stay tuned, because the story keeps getting weirder.

As of just minutes ago, after a couple of weeks in Russia more than likely in the hands of their intelligence apparatus, Mr. Snowden wants asylum in Russia. Wow. Stay tuned. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-202_162-57593457/edward-snowden-emerges-wants-asylum-in-russia/

(Illuminati symbolism?)

Meanwhile, the situation on the rubble, crumbling decaying city streets in Egypt continues to deteriorate at an accelerating pace. The mess of former democratically elected President Morsi, in large part due to his support from The Muslim Brotherhood is rapidly devolving into an all-out civil war.  Was it a military coup sponsored by the CIA? Clashes between ousted President Morsi's supporters and their secularized opposition have the death toll rising with each hurled rock and canister of tear gas. Meanwhile, the United States of Surveillance cannot call it what it is, a Military Coup, because then it wouldn't be able to continue to give humanitarian aid to Egypt. Those rules the United States of Surveillance will follow, but stopping the wiretapping and tracking of web traffic of the whole world is something they cannot abide by??!!!

All of this leads to the question, is the United States of Surveillance using all of this chaos as a means to further destabilize the region so that oil prices will further escalate and the powers that be can instigate a WW3 scenario dragging all of the major players into the mess; those players being Israel, Russia, Iran, China, Germany, France and England? Syria is waving their arms, don't forget about us. Throw another log onto the fire.

A massive world war would give them impetus for implementing a one-world government, you can count on that.

Finally, to wrap up this edition of Outrage, I would like to introduce you to the song of the summer of 2013, if you haven't already been hypnotized by its' simplistic beauty...............16 year old New Zealander, Lorde's "Royals."

Vol. 173: Run On

Ladies and gentlemen, Theona Donther back from the front lines in Brazil and Turkey. I'm still splashing huge amounts of water in my eyes to get the tear gas out and soothing rubber bullet caused bruises with massive amounts of painkillers, so bare with me, it's been a wild ride.

Let me begin with a not so reassuring gesture by the President of the United States of Surveillance, in which he said that the NSA program is overseen by Congress and the Intelligence Community; which is an oxymoron in and of itself; those are two words that shouldn't or aren't likely to be paired together in the same sentence, ever; intelligence and Congress? According to our ever-evolving dictator of a President of the United States of Surveillance, there is nothing to fear; there are "unprecedented series of measures.........checks and balances.......and let's quadruple check it," requirements in place in the surveillance program. Yep, nothing to worry about; we just want to ask you some questions. Please, there is nothing to fear. There is no reason to get upset. Just come with us immediately, and no one gets hurt.
The man of the hour, Edward Snowden has bounced from Hawaii to Hong Kong to Russia and possibly on his way to Ecuador via Cuba, but Vladimir Putin is not letting him go, just yet. What does Mr. Snowden know? Is he giving it to any one? What are the implications for diplomatic ties? The plot thickens and one thing remains clear...................................................................................

"They only have this one picture of me?!"

Run Mr. Snowden run!

China now has the world's fastest supercomputer and they love to hack, so lookout Silicon Valley, because the Asian-Tiger is still mighty hungry, if they can see their way through all of the pollution.

Then there is the question of security and freedom; where do you put the NSA? How do you balance the two? It is a slippery slope when living with an older Bigger Brother.

There are checkpoints for drunk driving and most agree that's okay, but that is the tip-toe to future checkpoints for anything. Hell, let us stop Green Bay Packer fans on the way back to Wisconsin after a game at the Metrodome? I have to imagine you could generate some tax-revenue there, wouldn't you agree? But that would make too much sense, and there's nothing common about common sense, is there?

Hopefully Coming to a Town Near You
Protests are raging throughout Brazil and that is much to my liking, despite the tear gas and rubber bullets. It's encouraging to see more people waking up to the fact that the tiny minority that holds the keys to power do not have their best interests at heart; they only have their bottom line, profits for themselves and their shareholders, nothing more. These protests are being sparked and fueled by the lack of spending on social services on the part of the government throughout Brazil. What the major media is saying that triggered these massive rounds of protests is the hike in bus fare throughout the country of 10% that started in Sao Paolo and spread like a zombie Apocalypse.  There is a significant lack in spending on health care and education, and instead, ever-increasingly greater portions of spending are being placed upon the readiness for the country's upcoming participation as host to the world's largest sporting events; the World Cup of Futball and the Olympic Summer Games. As if you didn't already know the Illuminati brothers and sisters were behind this; I guarantee each and everyone of you still able to read this blog without being bound or gagged, and if you're into that sort of thing, it's your prerogative; prostitutes and drugs from throughout the world will be shipped in preparation for the orgiastic duration, for hedonism knows no bounds. It will be Carnival but with bullets, bombs, booty and blood lust. You can already hear the maracas in the distance, the snorting of cocaine and the banging of drums drowning out the cries for help.

All of this slides nicely into the fact that the G-8 Summit was happening in Northern Ireland last week, where once again, outside of the U.S., President Obama was still very well received; they haven't had their phones tapped yet. The word on every one's tongue was Syria. What to do in Syria?  What do we do about Syria? According to President Obama and much of the world's media, "people are being slaughtered." According to mysteriously documented evidence from the U.N and other nefarious organizations, President Assad is using chemical weapons on his own people and this will not stand.  These are words not used unless something is on the verge of happening that will escalate the spread of war, and the drums continue to pound. All participating countries except Russia believe that the Assad regime must leave. Is the world going to use Syria as a means to implementing a more broadening war in the Middle-East; is the U.S. going to use the Edward Snowden case as another justification for cutting diplomatic ties with Russia? Stay tuned to find out.

The simple fact ladies and gentlemen, is that it has been a long time since a cathartic World War. Gog and Magog people. Book of Revelation. Get ready because it's going to get messy.

News that Iran has a new, relatively moderate President in Hassan Rouhani is hopeful. Also is the shocking fact that he was heckled during a press conference; a sign that the times are changing or they're putting up a good front in Tehran; the Revolutionary Guard must have had the day off. According to President Obama it is clear, "the Iranian people want to move in a different direction." If it only were that simple it would also be happening here in the United States of Surveillance in the shape of rising median incomes.

Mr. President, do you hear the common people of the United States wanting to move in a different direction?  Oh wait, it's not an election year. Don't bother.

Finally, on a somber note. RIP James Gandolfini (aka Tony Soprano), and author and Minnesota native, Vince Flynn. RIP.

Ladies and gentlemen, keep fighting against tyranny; keep watching for signs of the inevitable; stay educated, remain vigilant and never give up, and please do whatever you can to keep prospering in the new global economy.

Vol. 172: It's Been a Long Time Coming

Ladies and gentlemen, this is Thelonius Ronscpiacy back from the front lines in the war against stupidity and the corporate takeover of our once free-society that has been turned into a free-for-all-market global economized government, where anyone can be paid for in cash. Anything can be bought. And better yet, place it in an offshore Cayman Island account and pay no taxes. Hell, have your CEO as the Economic Advisor to the White House. Why not? You deserve it. Ladies and gentlemen, it has been a long time since there was some true "Outrage" worthy of this addled mind, so I shall wait no longer.

In the past couple of weeks, we have found out that the IRS was targeting conservative groups and Tea-Party splinter factions for years, the way once proud members of a small-knit group of bored teenagers targeted "trailer-people" on late Friday and Saturday evenings after finishing shifts at a local Chinese restaurant; there wasn't a lobby big enough to hold them back, their time had come. Knowledge of these shockingly brazen acts were quickly followed up by the news that the Justice Dept. had subpoenas out for A.P. reporters phone records, in search of a leak worthy of Nixon's plumbers post-Watergate. The dominoes kept on falling as word then came out that the NSA has been wiretapping phone users for years; thank you 9/11, thank you Patriot Act, thank you the never-ending War on Terror. Then, it has recently come to our attention that Internet users throughout the U.S. and probably the world have been blanketed as well in the mass surveillance state that once was the United States. Let us not forget that we shut down an entire city for three days to search for a 19 year old teenager in the city of Boston. That was weak, that wasn't "Boston strong." Ladies and gentlemen, you don't have to be a conspiracy theorist to realize that Obama is just one step closer to further metamorphosing the presidency into an revolving door corporate sponsored plutocracy with a puppet held together by the strings of the Citizens United ruling of the Supreme Court. Obama is just Richard Nixon with better technology. Obama is George W. with a better college degree. Ladies and gentlemen, it's a slippery slope. So hang on tight, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

So, in honor of the special occasion and in case you missed it, Happy Bilderberg 2013!

  • Bilderberg Meetings
61st Bilderberg conference to take place on 6-9 June 2013 in Hertfordshire, UK

Hertfordshire, 3 June 2013 - The 61st Bilderberg meeting is set to take place from 6 until 9 June 2013 in Hertfordshire, UK. A total of around 140 participants from 21 European and North American countries have confirmed their attendance. As ever, a diverse group of political leaders and experts from industry, finance, academia and the media have been invited. The list of participants is available on www.bilderbergmeetings.org

The key topics for discussion this year include:
    •    Can the US and Europe grow faster and create jobs?
    •    Jobs, entitlement and debt
    •    How big data is changing almost everything
    •    Nationalism and populism
    •    US foreign policy
    •    Africa’s challenges
    •    Cyber warfare and the proliferation of asymmetric threats
    •    Major trends in medical research
    •    Online education: promise and impacts
    •    Politics of the European Union
    •    Developments in the Middle East
    •    Current affairs

Founded in 1954, Bilderberg is an annual conference designed to foster dialogue between Europe and North America.

Every year, between 120-150 political leaders and experts from industry, finance, academia and the media are invited to take part in the conference. About two thirds of the participants come from Europe and the rest from North America; one third from politics and government and the rest from other fields.

The conference has always been a forum for informal, off-the-record discussions about megatrends and the major issues facing the world. Thanks to the private nature of the conference, the participants are not bound by the conventions of office or by pre-agreed positions. As such, they can take time to listen, reflect and gather insights.
There is no detailed agenda, no resolutions are proposed, no votes are taken, and no policy statements are issued.

All the while, the average citizen has no clue or care as to what is being done behind closed doors in a predominantly old age, all-white male millionaire scene.

Meanwhile, Shadow People have been infiltrating the corners of my peripheral vision. These multi-dimensional beings brought about during altered states of consciousness may be behind the paranoia inducing amplification of my thoughts. These Shadow People are the Incubus/Succubus of ancient folklore with red round eyes; some where hats, others have shaggy long hair, but glimpses can be caught in the state between R.E.M sleep and full consciousness. You will think you have witnessed a shadow on the wall move before your very eyes, but you may be wrong. Ladies and gentlemen, watch your six, because they might be coming for you; hell, the NSA and United States Government Security Apparatus is already watching and listening to you, why not the Shadow People?

To counteract the inevitable and to keep my frantic mind from the despair that is this fascist state we live in, I have been viewing some long delayed films in the midst of pulling my brainwaves from the cliffs of the abyss. Films and television shows I never had the time for, but thought, now is better than never; I may be dead tomorrow or better yet, placed in Guantanamo.

    (Karen Allen)
    (Amy Irving)
A couple of weeks ago I partook in the viewing pleasure of Philip Kaufman's creepy 1978 film version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The film is set in San Francisco, starring Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, a brief cameo by Robert Duvall, the always subtly annoying Jeff Goldblum and the rarely seen cinematically other than for Star Trek films, Leonard Nimoy. The movie is centered on the thesis that biological micro organisms have somehow travelled through the vortexes of space to populate our planet. The Dept of Public Health quietly becomes involved and before you know it, pod-people are popping up all over town. Watching the film I wondered, if the scenario didn't actually take place in the mid-70's when actresses Brooke Adams, Karen Allen and Amy Irving all seemed to be the same identical looking person. In the film, the real people were disposed of in garbage cans and this was all lost in a bureaucratic maze of phone calls. The only way you could prolong the inevitable was by staying awake; prophetic, we find our highly-caffeinated society where 5-hour energy drinks and lattes' are peddled with the veracity of inner-city crack hustlers.

(Brooke Adams) "Someone call my son, we need Jack Bauer!"
In order to escape notice by the pod-people you had to hide your emotions and keep popping speed. Today, we've traded in the Pods for I-Pods, I-Pads and I-Phones. We are addicted to all things fast; we are going through what Art Bell termed, "The Quickening."
I then finally got around to viewing 2006's extremely well-done prescient film United 93. With no recognizable actor working in the film, the artistic achievement of making a film with all of the "unknowns-known," to borrow a Rumsfeldism, about the terrorist-attacks that changed our world for the worse, was jaw-dropping cinematically as the real life events were to those personally affected. Paul Greengrass's direction was flawless. He would go on to direct the first couple of supremely executed Bourne Identity films. In United 93, the incredible intricacies of everyday minutiae were under the microscope. The terrorists maniacal coordination of having everyone in the air, along with the attention given to military exercises being performed that horrific day by multiple government agencies was well documented. Director Greengrass did a marvelous job depicting the nervousness and panic of not only the doomed passengers but also of the cowardly hi-jackers as well. The chaos that surrounded that day, the many different bureaucratic organizations trying to coordinate responses was mind-melting. NORAD, FAA, ATC, FBI, CIA and NSA. The black swan of the event is still mind boggling. The simple fact of the amazing number of planes in the air at any one time is enough to reach for a strong drink and cigarettes. The film was a sad, brilliant portrayal of the car-crash voyeuristic horror of reliving that nightmare of a morning. To quote a line from the film and the simple truth of today's terror-filled world where anyone could be a terrorist or the next mall visit could be a mass shooting, "Anything is suspect now." Is it any wonder that anti-depressants and anti-anxiety pills are prescribed in massive doses throughout the United States? I haven't read the 9/11 Commission report and should do so immediately, in order to wrap my head around the fact that could all of the dialogue and scenario portrayed in the film be made up? Do we really know what happened in Shanksville? Did they ever find a flight recorder black-box? I forget. The film's action rose steadily until the bleak ending. Sadly, the events of that horrible day were the stars of the excellent film.

Another film worth watching is the documentary, Knuckleball. In an era where everyone wants certainty and 100 mph speed, the knuckleball is anything but. Throughout the history of Major League Baseball, there have been roughly only 70 to 80 pitchers that have effectively thrown the mysterious pitch. That is an extremely small percentage. They are the outcasts, the nonconformists. The loner on the edge of town. The knuckle-baller sits waiting in the bullpen for his chance to pitch. To fill in. Doing and throwing anything to give his team a chance to win.
The film centers around the careers of Tim Wakefield, who in 1992 became a rookie sensation for the Pittsburgh Pirates as they made their run to the National League Championship series against the Atlanta Braves; the film also focuses upon R.A. Dickey, the knuckle-balling journeyman who had 37 moves in 14 years. It is a pitch that makes their chosen profession the terrifying realization where every start is the first start of their career and could be their last. It takes guts, courage and resilience to follow your dreams. The pitch is like making a deal with the Devil in order to continue playing baseball. Just one more chance, just one more opportunity to remain a kid and keep playing a game.

Finally, in a revelry of nostalgia, I watched the first episode of the television show credited with reviving the drama in the early to mid 1980's. Through the roll call warning of adolescent street punks out picking-pockets, to pimps and whores being dragged into the station, psychos rampaging through the office, and tall brunette breathtakingly beautiful defense attorneys sidestepping the carnival freak show, and all happening within the first ten minutes; there are references to biters, gunshots and hostage takers. The viewer is witness to the inner workings of Hill Street Station, home of the blues; Hill Street Blues. The subliminal message throughout the show's 6 tumultuous seasons' is "learn to love your law enforcers." In Hill Street Blues, every minority is presented in gross stereotype, hustlers and addicts litter the streets; the far right would like you to believe it's representative of our public school system. There are heroin junkies shooting up and shooting cops, stranded in the bad part of town, because someone stole their police car; just everyday occurrences in Hill Street. Swat Teams shoot up the convenience store run by immigrants only to make a statement, and that statement is the underlying racism that pervaded the show; the racism was the blues. Ladies and gentlemen, the best thing to come from the series was the theme song. In the era of Reagan you would have been wise to best get in line and hum along.

Vol. 171: The Greatest Living American Artist

In the winter of 1961, a young man from Hibbing, Minnesota set out on a quest. What began as a trip to meet his hero Woody Guthrie, has spanned almost five decades of often uninterrupted work (except if you count the mysterious motorcycle accident of 66' and his brush with death in the Spring of 97'). He's created work that will one day in the eyes of many, stand up next to that of Ernest Hemingway, Mark Twain, Herman Melville, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Jack Kerouac in terms of relevance in capturing the soul of the American character. He is a walking, breathing, singing, sunglasses wearing mythical hero, the embodiment of the American spirit.
On May 24th, this mystic wanderer, this myth creator, this motorcycle vagabond gypsy king will turn 72 years old. There are 72 names of God in the Kabbalah, but that just may be mere     coincidence. We'll have to let the Tarot cards of fortune spin its' wheels to decipher their significance; so let us shuffle the deck and spread the cards one more time.
His songs, his literature, his puzzling body of work speaks to the longing of us all to become better.  It demands that we ask questions of ourselves, to get as close to perfection as possible; it is the never-ending search, the constant struggle, the traveling over the hills and through the valleys we all face and what he brilliantly puts into each and every song.

In the time of my confession, in the hour of my deepest need
When the pool of tears beneath my feet flood every newborn seed
There’s a dyin’ voice within me reaching out somewhere
Toiling in the danger and in the morals of despair

Don’t have the inclination to look back on any mistake
Like Cain, I now behold this chain of events that I must break
In the fury of the moment I can see the Master’s hand
In every leaf that trembles, in every grain of sand

Oh, the flowers of indulgence and the weeds of yesteryear
Like criminals, they have choked the breath of conscience and good cheer
The sun beat down upon the steps of time to light the way
To ease the pain of idleness and the memory of decay

I gaze into the doorway of temptation’s angry flame
And every time I pass that way I always hear my name
Then onward in my journey I come to understand
That every hair is numbered like every grain of sand

I have gone from rags to riches in the sorrow of the night
In the violence of a summer’s dream, in the chill of a wintry light
In the bitter dance of loneliness fading into space
In the broken mirror of innocence on each forgotten face

I hear the ancient footsteps like the motion of the sea
Sometimes I turn, there’s someone there, other times it’s only me
I am hanging in the balance of the reality of man
Like every sparrow falling, like every grain of sand

"Every Grain of Sand," Shot of Love

He is a poet, a singer-songwriter, an alchemist; blending words and music together in a cauldron of smoke and mirrors, accompanied throughout, always with different musicians and different arrangements. He scrambles your senses on the frying pan of his music. He's deconstructing old myths at the same time he's creating his own, all the while never answering journalists' questions in a straight forward manner. That would be what's been expected. That would be too easy.
He's always walking the mystic path of his own creation. His music oftentimes leaves the listener struggling to discern the hidden meanings from behind their cryptic nature; but, if you listen well enough, you can hear the wisdom of his words, if you could just get past that voice.
He's an artist that has come full circle, from the warnings of apocalyptic clouds of acid rain in "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall," to the Time out of Mind  album's sad worried laments upon the inevitability of death and dying in this tragic modern world. As a result of his constant struggle, he's never been too busy to stop being born when most of us are too busy dying in endless lines of work-day traffic.
He's a Hebrew prophet singing, wailing for the world to wake up and pay attention before it's all too late. Like Moses, he too has led his own followers through the mindless desert bubble-gum pop music of the early 1960's into the lyric bending consciousness changing of the middle to latter periods of that tumultuous decade. Being the crowned spokesman of the generation, he continually challenged conformity. He wouldn't attend Woodstock when it was held practically in his own backyard. He'd already moved on from the peace and love and onto to something else. He had already realized that no amount of protest or social gathering was going to change anything, until you changed yourself.
His lyrics bridge the gap between humor and self-actualization. His songs are composed of lost love, past relationships and failed alliances. He's never exactly telling us what to do, for that's up to each and every one of us to decide for ourselves and therein lies the rub; the difficulty of his music for some, the challenge of changing embedded behaviors. We can all make personal breakthroughs, if we can just get past that voice.

It’s mighty funny, the end of time has just begun
Oh, honey, after all these years you’re still the one
While I’m strolling through the lonely graveyard of my mind
I left my life with you somewhere back there along the line
I thought somehow that I would be spared this fate
But I don’t know how much longer I can wait.

"Can't Wait," Time out of Mind

In the end, according to the simple twist of his fate, he's just a "song and dance man." At times his songs can bring you to tears, in the plain realization that you are able to be so close to his staggering genius. His music easily gets under your skin, disarms, slides and slithers its way into your subconscious; there is no shelter from this storm. Like nails on the chalkboard, you can't look away or disengage from his voice of awakening. He wrote songs of protest (but no more "finger pointing songs" these days) and continues to write songs of prophecy and pragmatism. He writes songs of heartbreak, heartache and self-deprecating humor. He sings songs of truth. His "Chimes of Freedom," rang for an entire generation and still do, if you listen hard enough past the bombardment of commercially twisted advertising manufactured pop-music; what he's been after has always been what he wishes for mankind. The truth.

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
    And climb on every rung
    May you stay forever young
    Forever young, forever young
    May you stay forever young

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
    May you always be courageous
    Stand upright and be strong
    May you stay forever young
    Forever young, forever young
    May you stay forever young

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
May your song always be sung
    May you stay forever young
    Forever young, forever young
    May you stay forever young

    "Forever Young" Planet Waves

Ever since he got on the road, he's been busy.

Dylan has won many awards throughout his career including 11 Grammy Awards, one Academy Award and one Golden Globe Award; He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and Songwriters Hall of Fame. In May 2000, Dylan was awarded the Polar Music Prize. In May 2012, Dylan was one out of thirteen honorees to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.[332]
At 72, still pretty damn Cool

Long before there were advertising conceived reality-singing-contest shows, he proved that it took the alignment of the universe, hard work and divine inspiration to get a record contract. From a "Song for Woody" to "Things have Changed" his repertoire encompasses the entire span of human emotion. Since the summer of 1988, he has been tirelessly touring. As of May 5th, 2013, he's performed 2500 times live since June 7th, 1988. It's just another side of him that makes us realize that he is constantly swimming in the ether of the eternal. He's always putting new spins and angelic sounds on past songs, always giving the listener, the watcher something to hear, something to look for. Another reason to attend another one of his shows.
There are the subtle nuances of his smirk, the vague answers of his interviews as he continues to cast mirrors in front of us; like all good art, it's up to the viewer and the listener to participate and take meaning from his enduring genius. It is this very reason that I have to come to the belief, taken from one of the earliest episodes of the classic television show The X-Files, that Mr. Dylan is like a shark; if it stops swimming it will die; if the man from Hibbing stops touring, stops writing, stops working, stops "singing and dancing," he too will die. If his songs continue to do anything, they get you to think, they bend your mind and like he said back in 66', "everybody's mind should be bent once in a while." He's a modern day Hebrew Prophet wandering the world, spreading his message in a desert of distrust, impatience and materialistic greed; and although things have changed, some things never do, and if the Bible were being written today, there would be a Gospel according to Bob. You just have to believe, have faith and continue singing and dancing; if you could just get past that voice.

Happy 72nd Mr. Dylan, take another bow; you most definitely deserve it, you most certainly do.
