Greetings to you all on this late afternoon, the day after chocolates and jewelry and possibly too much wine and not enough roses.  I am blessed with too much of everything. That is my entitlement as an American, and for that I am hypocritical and grateful at the same time, despite my lack of employment. Greetings. Don't worry about me. It is what it is. I believe GOD said that to Moses. Or maybe he should have.

 

I am writing today not with news of the present nor of lectures on the past, but with my views on the current state of life in the affluent and much deserved but maybe not well used world of mainstream culture in the great United States of America. It is obvious to me that we as Americans and general consumers of the newest and the latest and the biggest and the brightest have built a need to find the magical and the fantastic within a world that has grown increasingly dull and damaging to the creative spirit. Why do you think Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings and Star Wars appeal to both children and adults? Because, we all want to escape the life were living. Drugs, alcohol, sex, technology. Take your pick. We all want to become instant lottery winners. Sloths to the dollar. Give us something for nothing, and "our chicks for free." Thus making us more and more, complacently uninspiring.

 

There is no great project. There is no great movement. We are all just trying to survive and make it to the end of the work week so we can collect our paychecks and pay our minimum balance and start it over again Monday morning. 

 

If terrorists or whoever the boogeymen that our government wants us to be afraid of, were to dismantle our electricity for more than a week, there would be utter chaos. No one needs a nuclear device. Just pull the plug. We as a society that once appreciated nature and everything that it has to offer, have gotten too far away from the garden of which we came from. Eden people. Eden. Are you still with me? Instead, we are spreading ourselves and our children too thin. We are trying to be something that we are not. We are pushing them to excel at the age of 2!!! And if they or ourselves act out, we just sedate them or ourselves with pills. There must be something wrong with them if they don't seem blindly happy. We will have become, parents and children in comas. Our hospitals are the houses in the suburbs.

 

The perfect consumer is one without an intelligent opinion. Just a job and a pulse and no conscience.

 

We are on a fast forward highly caffeinated drive a little faster turn it up a little louder life-track. In a hurry to go nowhere. Remember, it all may come to a crashing halt on December 22nd, 2012. The Mayans, remember The Mayans. Or, I may just be too cynical and too wacked out, I am lefthanded and have red hair, for GOD's sake, I am dying breed for that alone, however, I do not apologize. Like the bumper sticker says, if you're not outraged, you're not paying attention. So, until I find another consumer of my time at 8 hours a day 5days a week that which allows me to continue pressing on in my personal and spiritual development, and getting back into to school where one day I can be paid for my lectures, I will keep on keeping on. As long as the bills are paid. Someone famous once said that. So with that being said, once again, despite my outrage, I still remain hopeful that we will all wake up in time. Much love, peace and happiness. Seriously.

Ladies and gentlemen. We are in the stages of what may be called fantasy to some and virtual reality to others. The line between real and perception is just a matter of opinion.

Yet another week has gone by and the currents seem to be rushing onward and carrying us all out to the sea of uncertainty. We have on our hands, to the probably more or less unaware or unconcerned, an upcoming war with Iran that is just waiting in the bay of the Gulf. We, the US, now have two armed aircraft carriers sitting out there keeping a watchful eye on Iran as the tensions mount and they tinker with their nuclear power plants. To think that we are not going to rattle our sabers and continue to spread democracy is an understatement. I believe the Roman Empire too wanted to spread their form of government. But it's not a religious war. Never think that. It's an ideological struggle. You may be scratching your heads and asking yourselves, what's the difference? I don't know. We are yet to have a scientist explain that one for us. One thing that I do know, is that our government is rich enough not to have to worry about strapping their soldiers with backpacks loaded with explosives to do the trick. We have smart bombs for that. And no collateral damage has ever occurred from a smart bomb, stupid.  Anyhow, Iran is next. The puppets may change, but the strings that pull them never do.

Then, there's the release of another videotape, just a day before the State of the Union and our puppet's desire to maintain a sense of vigilance in the war on terror which always needs reinforcing, of what eerily looks like a puppet of some kind, or it may have been Jim Henson's creation on acid, Al Qaida's no.2 man, Zawhiri or something or other waiving his finger and threatening the destruction and death to all US Civilians and soldiers in Iraq. Begging for us to send them more sacrifices to the funeral pyre. And what does our puppet want to do, oblige them with more. Whoever he is or they are, they all pale in comparison to Bin-Laden. Remember him. The boogeyman.

By the way. The World Economic Forum is taking place right now in Switzerland. The lack of coverage given to this blood sucking roundtable of how to make more money and to look innocent while you exploit the poor and uneducated while you do it, is of no surprise to me, being that the people who are present at the lavishly extravagant event are the same one who control the media. And remember, they are looking out for your best interests. Now, shut up and watch your American Idol. Please, whatever you do, don't pick up a book.

On November 7th, in the red state of Ohio, there was a possible UFO sighting from an air traffic controller's tower at Ohio International Airport. The news of this possible sighting didn't reach the American public and the Associated Press until January 2nd. Why did they wait so long to report on something that they simply denied ever happening? Why not immediately come out the day after with the denial if it was so apparent that it wasn't a UFO? It's not like the US Government would ever cover anything up? Would they? Come on people, and Oswald had his rifle shipped to him at a P.O. Box in Dallas under his name?

Did anyone download the hanging of Saddam Hussein onto their I-Pods? Nice security on that job. We've created quite the little vacation spot in Baghdad, haven't we? Ohhhh, Beirut in the 80's. Good times. Good times. Shake that thing for the camera phone.

By the way, did anyone read or see that Barack Obama, our next Vice President, did Cocaine. "She don't lie, she don't lie, Cocaine." Not an outcry from anyone. Hey George W....see...you could've admitted it, it was a mistake, that's all. Oh that's right, you don't make mistakes. Only escalations. 20k more troops in Iraq should do the trick to stabilize the region. Simple. Great speech on Wednesday night, threatening to confront the war on terror in Iran and Syria if need be. And then, just like always, the perfect timing of a rocket hitting the US Embassy in Athens, Greece the next day. Not during the Olympics, when the whole world was there. But a day after a speech to America. See everybody, were still fighting a war on terror. I wasn't just blowing hot air. Kind of like the last time the G-8 got together in Scotland, and while they were there, the London bombings happened. See everybody, were not just making this stuff up. We really need to hold you for as long as we want and charge you with nothing and not let you speak to a lawyer and you are guilty until proven innocent in the war on terror. But were here to help protect your God given rights. What a crock. Happy 5th Anniversary to Guantanamo Bay on the 11th of January 2007. 5 years ago we sent 22 supposed terrorists. 22 on the 11th. 9/11. 11/22, they do love their 11, 22, 33's don't they. They don't plan any of it do they? It's all simple coincidence. And, did anyone notice how the American Media pretty much sidestepped that landmine of news information? Nice. That and the lack of the attention given to the fact that the President and the US Government now has the power to open anyone's mail without a warrant, is just another, in a long list of examples of how fascist our Government has become and how weak and muffled the cries of freedom and justice have been. Then again, Genius is never in the majority.

I ask, Where is our shepard? For we are becoming sheep led to the slaughter. The land of the Free and home of the brave, has become just so long as you have enough money and you are not free thinking.

The main headline of the day or in the dawning of the sun to another day of only 6 hours of electricity if you're in Baghdad, is that the once gloriously brutal sword swash buckling dictator is now dead. No not George W., I can't be that lucky. Are you getting this secret service. You know where I live. No, I'm talking about the death sentence where the executioners are just as guilty as the executed.  The dictator that did serve in a war, unlike every single member of our current administration. But let me not quivvel on facts. Yes, Saddam Hussein, our good friend from the 80's when we were backing his army in their 10year war against Iran. Oh, how the times had changed for the once photographed smiling and shaking hands with our former Defense Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, who should have been up there on the gallows along with good ole' Saddam. But what are you gonna do, except stay the course, push on because it's hard work and not take the advice of the Iraq Study Group, not one of the 79 recommendations. Not one. But I'll listen to what they have to say.  Ask yourselves, and we don't have a fascist dictatorship in full swing? Please.

 

People, we are a country where we pride ourselves on the glories and attributes of freedom and democracy and lifting up the poor and hungry masses, but don't life a finger for the now already 400,000 dead in Darfur. But why lift a finger? The ones who are dying are Muslim. They're all terrorists anyhow. Let them die. There is no oil reserves over there for us anyway. Let them die and then we can move in and take all of their abundant natural resources which they must be sitting on. Oh, sorry, that's the entire continent of Africa. But really, we want to give you peace and liberty and democracy for all men, women and children. Freedom is each person's God given right. We must spread that throughout the world, but only if we profit from it.

 

Now open up and say ahhhhh. How about some nice yummy, genetically engineered all natural, except for the fact that it's cloned, food. Safe to eat. Yummy yummy yummy. The FDA says its fine. Trust them. I don't. And they don't even have to put labels on it. Nice. But you can't smoke a joint. Nice. But you can pop a pill for your restless legs. What the f!!!! is going on people.

First it was the pets, now it's the food. Next it's gonna be you. Think about it.

 

Then again, think about a Casino in Vegas, catered only to men, where you have nothing but clones of Jessica Simpson and Angelina Jolie's as waitresses and hostesses and madams. That's not so bad is it? Ladies, wouldn't you want your own Brad Pitt or Doctor Mcdreamy.

 

Think about it. Like kids on the backs of milk cartons. The chips are coming.

 

And we aren't playing God? If you believe in that sort of thing. Or it's just science. Science is good. Science never harmed a soul.

 

How could it, because souls and science cannot co-exist, or can they? Mull on that one while your getting ready for American Idol.

 

Now for something on the lighter side of life.

 

As warned at the end of my last outrages, which have seen a jolt of caffeine as of late.  I have fell under the spell of a musical russian nymph who was relocated to New York City. Her name is Regina Spektor. You may have seen her video on VH1. That other channel that still plays videos. Ladies and gentlemen, she is charming like a young Natalie Portman in the film Beautiful Girls, where you could tell that she was going to be a star.  Regina's ability for swinging through the pitch and the tempo with her quirky anecdotes and em-phasis placed on certain syllables, make her a gypsy of the 21st Century. Like a much more friendlier version of Fiona Apple, listen and you'll be hooked.

 

Finally, quality Television has hit another all time high. But this time it has come from an unexpected candidate. The Lifetime channel. Who now brings us yet another Reality T.V. Game show, "Gay, Straight or Taken" which female contestants now get to take a stab as to which good looking guy is etc., you get the deal. It is sure to be a hit. Nothing but informative television for the women. The equal rights movement has come a long way hasn't it? Whether it be Oprah telling you what to buy or the latest fashion magazine placing the importance on what Nicole Richie has or hasn't been eating. Always look your best ladies. Just don't think it. 

 

You may be wondering where that came from. I don't know either. But like my Dog Rufus always says, "Deal with it."

Merry X-mas and Happy New Year to everyone.  It is the time of the year for evenings spent with family in front of a fire or the languid light of our created existence, the television. It is the wailing of George Bailey through the streets of Bedford Falls in the rhythm of cheering Merry X-mas! and good will to all mankind. It is only unfortunate that it doesn't last all year long. Let's work together to change that.

 

To slap you in the face. I would hazard to guess that you do not or did not realize that our president signed the Torture Act on 10/17/06. Giving the President the right to do whatever, to whoever, whenever, for however long he or she would deem necessary. Perfect for a dictator or the anti-christ. And we aren't becoming a Fascist State?

I hope that more people will wake up to the lies that they have been told and shown over and over again concerning that awful day on September 11th, 2001. The day that has been used to engage in a never ending war. A war where the enemy is ourselves and our freedoms. Where we have handed over the powers of a dictator to our president and future presidents hereafter. It is not George W. Bush I'm afraid of. I'm afraid of the next president that comes along, who will more than likely be smarter than the current one. And grin at the chance to truly use the power that has been given. "Something wicked this way comes?"

I leave you today with my jaw still dropped onto the floor at the awe-inspiring performance of Damien Rice at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis on Wednesday evening the 20th of December, which quite simply propelled myself and hopefully everyone else that was present that night into asking, why isn't he more popular and why don't we hear more of him on the radio?  And who the hell does James Blunt think he is? "You're Beautiful" is a good song, but I am sorry to say, James, you are nothing more than a 1st grader compared to the bursting at the seams, standing ovation talent of Mr. Rice. Ladies and Gentlemen, He is the Elephant in the room. Please come and join the safari.

Yes it is. It is about time. For I have discovered some glimmering shades of light through the dark fallen leaves at the end of the tunnel. I have discovered for myself, long after a silent majority of young and middle aged people throughout the world have already embraced. I do not argue with the fact that I am slow to come around to change when it comes to technology. I still have a stereo receiver from the year 1981, with the knob dial and the sliding horizontally bar through station to station, searching for WKRP. You may call me Dr. Johnny Fever. It took me until the year 2004 to get a cell phone. And now as some of you know, I am addicted to text messaging. Whether it be in a busy crowded line at a Subway restaurant during the lunch hour rush or inside a elevator with strangers. It gives me a reason not to confront what appears to me to be the growing rage within our modern day society. Typically the boiling over anger at anything that takes time. But, for those of you losing patience, let me get straight to the point. Last night I finally mady my maiden voyage onto the landscape that is YouTube, and I will tell you that it has me thinking things over as to how we can embrace and embolden technology for the better. First of all, it is free. The best word in the english lexicon. Free. People, for instance, I had been searching for an audio version of Fiona Apple's performance of Elvis Costello's "I Want You", ever since I layed eyes and opened my ears to it this summer on VH1, and after scanning the web and the record shops, stumbled upon it on YouTube last night. And from there, pandora's box was swung wide open. Kinda like what Randy Moss used to be for the Vikings. But I digress.

From there, it became anything and everything. Type it in and wham. There it is. An old recording of Van Morrison or Dylan or Tom Waits. Amazing. Things that were once hard to find are now at our fingertips. Truly amazing. You name it and it is there for the taking. Kinda like US Foreign Policy. Now I know how people can spend hours and hours searching throughout the night only to find themselves with little sleep but a glazed over look of happiness the next morning. Kinda like sex without the protection. Good morning, I think I'll go have a cigarette.
